Description

The start of the panoramic trail between Unterbäch and Eischoll is in Brandalp. At the Alpenrösli restaurant, two paths lead off to the west. The panoramic trail runs to the left above the chairlift station (Brandalp-Breite Stäg). From here you can focus fully on the beautiful winter hiking trail. After just 500 metres, you enter a forest of spruces and larches, which opens up after a good ten minutes' walk. At Breite Stäg, the path turns around and a gentle climb awaits you. Shortly before Gorbatbach, the path forks again. Take the right turn, and after a few more metres you will reach the highest point, which is the halfway point of the hike. A gentle descent follows through the forest to the Egga restaurant in Strygge. The 200 metre ascent is spread over six kilometres and is therefore not too challenging for hikers.

Turn-by-turn directions

The path is permanently groomed by a snow cat. Normal winter shoes are therefore sufficient, but you can also bring your own snowshoes should you desire. There are no narrow or dangerous passages along the way.

Information

Public transport

The village of Unterbäch is easily accessible by public transport. You can take the SBB train from Visp to Raron. From here, it's about a five-minute walk to the Raron-Unterbäch cable car. Once in Unterbäch, walk eastwards for about two minutes until you reach the Unterbäch-Brandalp chairlift, then take the panoramic route to Eischoll and return to Raron by cable car from Eischoll.

Approach

Unterbäch can also be easily reached by car. Take either the route from Visp via Bürchen to Unterbäch, or the route from Turtmann via Eischoll to Unterbäch.

Tip: the Visp-Bürchen-Unterbäch route is a little more winding, but wider. The Turtmann-Eischoll-Unterbäch route is less winding, but narrower.

Parking

In Unterbäch, you can either park your car in the car park at the eastern entrance to the village or directly in the village, below the top station of the Raron-Unterbäch cable car. If you wish to drive to Raron and then take the cable car to Unterbäch, you can park free of charge in the car park marked LRU. The parking meter ticket will be refunded at the Unterbäch cable car.
