Description

You’ll find various quotes from famous women around the world all along the snowshoe route between Brandalp and the village of Unterbäch. From the village of Unterbäch, take the chairlift to Brandalp, where the first quotation is already displayed. East of the restaurant, take the road towards the valley until the first bend. Follow one of the many purple "Frauen Zitatenweg" signs and walk along the "Bielsuon" stream until you reach the hamlet of Ta on the left. The second quotation is in a sharp left-hand bend, before plunging into a forest of larches and spruces, and descending gently towards the village. Note that the path, which has plenty of places to sit and rest, then leads out of the forest and the village of Unterbäch appears before you in an impressive mountain setting. The highlight of the hike are two more quotes next to the Elisabeth Kopp monument, from Federal Councillors Micheline Calmy-Rey and Viola Amherd. A total of 14 quotations from women from all over the world are scattered along the route.

Turn-by-turn directions

Information

Public transport

The village of Unterbäch is easily accessible by public transport. You can take the SBB train from Visp to Raron. From here, it's about a five-minute walk to the Raron-Unterbäch cable car. Once in Unterbäch, walk east for about two minutes until you reach the Unterbäch-Brandalp chairlift.

Approach

Unterbäch can also be easily reached by car. Either choose the route from Visp via Bürchen to Unterbäch or the route from Turtmann via Eischoll to Unterbäch. Tip: the Visp-Bürchen-Unterbäch route is a little more winding, but wider. The Turtmann-Eischoll-Unterbäch route is less winding, but narrower.

Parking

You can park your car in the car park at the eastern entrance to Unterbäch, or directly in the village, below the top station of the Raron-Unterbäch cable car. If you wish to drive to Raron and then take the cable car to Unterbäch, you can park free of charge in the car park marked LRU. The parking meter ticket will be refunded at the Unterbäch cable car.
