Visit Raron, where the poet, Rainer Maria Rilke, found his final resting place in the churchyard of the late-medieval Burgkirche in the mountain-top castle. With 500 seats, the Michaelskirche (St. Michael's) is currently Europe's largest church entirely located inside the rock. In neighbouring Niedergesteln you will find the well-tended old farming village with its Wefahaus, one of the oldest abodes in the Valais. The heart of the village is located at the foot of the twelfth-century Gesteln castle. The ice-age cave within the cliff on which the castle is situated is also well worth a visit.
