Description

This circular tour starting and finishing at the Ycoor centre in the heart of Montana culminates at the Col de Crans-Montana at an altitude of more than 1,800 metres. To reach the col, you take the Plumachit road that climbs from the base station of the Violettes gondola: an ascent of 5.6 kilometres along a minor road with little traffic. The route is accessible to all, with a total climb of 430 metres. After reaching the Col de Crans-Montana, you begin the descent to Aminona before finally returning to your starting point.

Turn-by-turn directions

Start your ride at the Ycoor centre in Montana, and follow the Route du Clovelli past the Montana funicular station and the Geneva University Hospitals clinic. At the junction with the Route de la Combaz, turn left onto the Route de l’Astoria in the direction of the Barzettes-Violettes gondola – but just before the gondola station, turn left onto the Route de Plumachit. Climb as far as Plumachit; you then reach the hamlet of Colombire and, a little higher, the Col de Crans-Montana, highest point of your route. From here, you descend to Aminona, where you follow the road to Montana and Crans; this will bring you back to the base station of the Barzettes-Violettes gondola. Now you just have to return to your starting point via the same route you followed on the outward leg.
