Arrival to Oberwald

The Furka High Trail first takes you up to Gletsch, the road snaking its way up countless hairpin bends to the Grimsel Pass. You’ll then continue over the Furka Pass and hike to the village of Tiefenbach, possibly with a visit to the nearby Rhône Glacier along the way. This stage is a little harder than the rest, so you can shorten it by using public transport if you wish. Details: approx. 17 kilometer, ↑ 1'470 m ↓ 725 m, Length: 6.5 h

Today begins with a leisurely hike along the rocky south-east slopes of the Furka High Trail, above the Urseren Valley, with views down to Realp and Hospental, the pass road and the historic Furka steam railway. Along the way, the beauty of the local lakes, alpine flora, mountain streams and wild rocky peaks unfold before you. Your arrival in in Andermatt concludes this hiking tour. The tough ascent to the Furka Pass require a good level of basic fitness. The paths are well maintained and easy to walk on, but a sure foot is still necessary.
