Salentze gorges

In the Salentze gorges, underneath the Farinet bridge, flows a warm water source, known already by the Romans, and currently used by the Saillon baths. A corner of well preserved nature, it is where the painter Gustave Courbet painted his piece "Caverne des géants", and is also where, in 1880, the police force cornered Farinet; it is probably that the fugitive, exhausted and starving, took a fatal fall; but rumour says that his pursuers may have killed him.
