Several Valais resorts and regions are establishing themselves as key destinations for trail running, providing a network of specially designed routes for enthusiasts.

Every runner, from novice to veteran, will find plenty to suit his or her taste, with a wide variety of itineraries offering many possibilities in terms of distance and ascent. The choice is vast!

Trail running Portes du Soleil

This cross-border holiday region offers 400 km of trail divided among 54 itineraries in both Switzerland and France, of which 18 lie in Valais: a vast network. A free smartphone app has been developed to provide trail running enthusiasts with all relevant information.

Trient Valley Hiking-trail space

Crossed by the famous UTMB route, Trient valley offers six itineraries of different levels totalling 92 kilometres and featuring 7,200 metres of altitude difference. The aim is for the region to make all its paths accessible to the fans of this discipline.

Trail running Pays du St-Bernard

Test your limits by taking on tracks that are part of the Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc (UTMB) or the Trail Verbier-St-Bernard (TVSB). Some 20 routes await you, involving a total of 415 kilometres of routes and more than 33,000 metres of positive altitude difference, across lakes, dams and glaciers.

Nendaz and Veysonnaz offer 14 routes ranging from 5.9 to 70 kilometres featuring differences in altitude of between 472 and 3590 metres. Designed for amateurs and experienced runners alike, these routes, which include those of the Nendaz Trail, start from Haute-Nendaz, Siviez or Veysonnaz.

Alpes Trail Val d’Hérens

Alpes Trail Val d’Hérens – the name given to the network of 490 km of trails in the Val d’Hérens region – comprises 19 routes, including 2 timed challenges, of varying lengths and levels of difficulty, with itineraries to suit every enthusiast. A smartphone app contains all useful information in a user-friendly format.

Trail hotspot Val d’Anniviers

Five routes of contrasting character and varying degrees of difficulty make up the “Trail Hotspot” of the Val d’Anniviers. Experience high thrills among alpine lakes, flower-filled pastures and fragrant forests – in sight of the “Imperial Crown” of 4,000-metre peaks that frame the valley!

15 itineraries totalling 200 km with an overall vertical gain of 15,800 m: Crans-Montana offers options to thrill trail runners of all tastes and levels of ability. The routes vary from 2 to 55 km in length and between 300 and 4,200 m of vertical climb: the choice vast.
