Description

From the mountain station of the cable car, the Tyndall theme trail leads up to the Tyndall monument, then down via Villa Tyndall to the Aletschbord, where you can take a short break at the Hotel Belalp enjoying a delicious nut croissant and a fine cup of coffee. The Tyndall Trail is classified as an easy hike which takes you about an hour 10 min. for the 3 kilometers.

The trail, including a new memorial plaque, was opened to mark the 202nd birthday of the Irish explorer and mountaineer. Along the way, you will find information boards with fascinating facts about John Tyndall, his life and research. You can also enjoy a fascinating and unique view of the Great Aletsch Glacier, the centrepiece of the Jungfrau-Aletsch UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Further interesting hikes start at the Aletschboard: For example, the route to the Sparrhorn, an easy 3000 metre-high peak. Another option is the hike in the direction of Aletschji towards the Great Aletsch Glacier ending at the Riederalp.
