The firn field at the origin of the glacier is situated on a platform at a height between 3'000 in 3'200 meters. The plateau which is between 100-150m thick is sourrounded by the summits Aguille du Tour, Aiguilles Dorées and Pointe d’Orny. Below the « plateau of Trient », the glacier who measures then 600 meters wide, rushes into the narrow valley directed northward, where the glacier tongue reaches an altitude of 1800 m near to the village of Vésevey. In the South of the Pointe d’Orny, the hut of Trient (Swiss Alpine Club) on 3170 m.a.s. serves as starting point for tours on the glacier and expeditions to the summits of the northern Mont-Blanc Massif in approximately 3'170 meters in height.
