Via Dala - two contemporary witnesses
In the „Dalatal“ between Leuk and Leukerbad, two unique paths testify to the region’s history: the aim of the paths equipped with ladders was to avoid obstacles such as rocks and cliffs on their way. In order to supply the bathers in Leukerbad with groceries, the inhabitants had to use the legendary „Albinenleitern“ for transports. On the other side of the valley, the „Varner Leitern“ reduced the traveling time of the guests arriving from the west of Valais. Famous writers and poets such as Goethe caused the ladder paths to become known far away. These precursors of the modern Via Ferrata nowadays are still worth visiting and an unforgettable experience.
