Unusual meals
After an exhilarating day’s skiing, as the sun sets behind the Valais Alps, it’s the moment to enjoy a meal with a difference. Valais offers many ways of discovering local cuisine in an unusual way. How about a dinner in a gondola, an igloo? Here are some suggestions for an original gastronomic adventure in the heart of Valais.
Fondue on a pedalo – Champex-Lac and Crans-Montana
On a tranquil lake, looking up at the surrounding mountains and feeling like the only people on earth… After pedalling back to shore, enjoy a fondue on your pedalo in a stunning setting. Whoever drops their bread in the fondue pot will have to walk the plank!

Fonduegondel – Saas-Fee
Climb aboard the Saas-Fee cable car and soak up the friendly atmosphere as you tuck into a tasty fondue. Admire the alpine landscape and the glittering village of Saas-Fee as night falls. Choose the “candlelight” option for a perfect romantic meal for two or the family version with toys to entertain the children.

Igloo on the Mont-Fort
Head for the highest point in the Verbier ski area to enjoy Europe’s highest fondue! Located at an altitude of 3,300 metres, the Igloo on the Mont-Fort offers breathtaking panoramic views of more than 110 Alpine summits including the Jungfrau, Weisshorn, Matterhorn and Mont Blanc. Before heading back down to resort – either in the cable car or, if you are brave, by skiing or snowboarding down the mogul run – make sure you taste the house speciality: the Swiss Rock Coffee, a hot drink made with “Douce de Abricot” fruit spirits, cane sugar, espresso coffee and whipped cream.
