Région Dents du Midi: enjoy Swiss National Day from home

This year, the Région Dents du Midi invites you to celebrate Swiss National Day with a digital sound & light show that you can enjoy anywhere – either via the holiday region’s social media channels or the Valais TV channel, Canal 9. The multimedia extravaganza begins at 8 pm: if you love the spectacular scenery of the Dents du Midi, make sure you’re near a screen!

Chamoson: foodie tour on foot

The largest winemaking municipality in Valais this year invites you to accept the “Challenge Chamosard”, a festive event that takes place between Chamoson and the neighbouring villages of Les Mayens-de-Chamoson and St-Pierre-de-Clages. The programme includes live music, a “festival of flavours” at 16 participating venues and leisurely walks between them –punctuated by drinks, gastronomic treats and entertainment. Heaven for walkers and foodies alike!

Zermatt: celebrate Swiss National Day at the foot of the Matterhorn

Hosted by the Swiss comedian and TV presenter Sven Furrer, the Swiss National Day celebrations in Zermatt promise to be unforgettable. They begin at 10.30 am on the shores of the Leisee lake with speeches, musical entertainment and a picnic, and continue in the evening down at the resort’s restaurants, which have devised a delicious menu for the occasion. Festivities finish with a spectacular flourish at 10 pm at the foot of the Matterhorn with the ringing of bells and one of the finest fireworks displays in Valais.

Oberwald: drums to the fore!

At the far end of the Goms (upper Rhône) valley, the village of Oberwald is celebrating Swiss National Day to the beat of the Young Drummers of Bratsch. At 5.30 pm the group sets off in procession from Garbely Adventure to walk to the Pische Wald playground, where they perform from 6 pm. After the concert, the organisation Obergoms Impuls is generously hosting drinks.

Saas valley: villages in festive mood

Just for once, the villages of Saas-Almagell, Saas-Balen, Saas-Fee and Saas-Grund are joining forces to bring their own personal touch to a Swiss National Day full of colour and variety. Concerts, Raclettes, barbecues, brunches and all kinds of entertainment promise a convivial atmosphere throughout the valley: an opportunity to celebrate August 1 in fitting style and explore these enchanting villages at the same time!

Torgon: Natur’Art exhibition and other festivities

As part of Swiss National Day celebrations, the municipality of Vionnaz invites you to the opening of its wood-themed exhibition, with the assembly and inauguration of striking works by three internationally renowned artists between 9 am and 5 pm. Festivities continue at the “Couvert des Vieilles”, with live music, entertainment, food and drink from 6 pm until late in the night.

Leuk: classical music concert for Swiss National Day

For Swiss National Day, Leuk is bringing together a selection of 22 young musicians aged 15 to 25 from the four corners of Switzerland to perform demanding works from the classical repertoire under the baton of the internationally renowned conductor Kai Bumann. This special concert by the Swiss Youth Symphony Orchestra takes place at 7 pm on the main square. Music lovers are in for a treat!

Leukerbad: Swiss National Day sunrise and brunch

Leukerbad is organising a 2-hour guided walk from the Rinderhütte mountain lodge up to the Torrenthorn to watch sunrise at an altitude of 2,997 metres. Expect to rise early on this festive day: the start of the ascent is scheduled for 3.45 am! Afterwards, enjoy a delicious breakfast at the panoramic Rinderhütte restaurant, which offers a breathtaking view of the Valais Alps and the Rhône valley, bathed in morning sunshine.

Le Bouveret: dance evenings, brunch and traditions

On the shores of Lake Geneva, visitors can expect a refreshingly festive atmosphere for the weekend of Swiss National Day! Celebrations begin on 31 July with a choice: a 1920s evening at the restaurant La Terrasse du Port, an 80s evening at La Barge, or a lounge-music evening at the campsite bar. August 1st itself focuses on gastronomic treats with a delicious brunch served on the Quai Bussien. Finish your weekend on a traditional note at the attractive Sunday market, during which different alphorn groups perform.

Martigny: Swiss National Day brunch

This town full of history invites you to celebrate Swiss National Day in the form of a delicious brunch in three stages. Take a seat in Le Baladeur, Martigny’s small tourist train, for a ride across town that takes in the Moulin Semblanet (a beautifully preserved watermill that now houses a restaurant), the vineyards of Martigny and the castle of La Bâtiaz, with a mouth-watering stop at each. Savour a range of delicious products and specialities from the region as you enjoy this gastronomic outing with a difference.

Grengiols: Swiss National Day brunch

To celebrate Swiss National Day, the charming village of Grengiols invites visitors of all ages to its traditional 1st August family brunch. A generous buffet – delicious products from the Binntal valley and surrounding region along with home-made specialities – awaits you at the Brüchematte community hall from 10 am to 1.30 pm. Entertainment is provided by Cervandone, a music group from Upper Valais.

Sierre: the “City of the Sun” in a blaze of light

A spectacular drive-in sound-and-light show is taking place in the Bellevue area on 31 July and 1 August at 9.30 pm. From the comfort of your car, enjoy a scintillating spectacle that combines music, pyrotechnic effects and illuminated aerial performances in the heart of the “City of the Sun”. About 40 artistes collaborate to provide an enchanting event unlike any other.

Evolène: illumination of the Dents de Veisivi

On 31 July, head to Evolène to enjoy one of the most beautiful light shows planned in Valais. At 10.30 pm, the nearby mountains of the Dents de Veisivi and Dent de Perroc will be illuminated by a thousand lights shimmering between white and gold, in a magnificent display that showcases the glorious natural landscape. Local restaurants are offering take-away dishes and picnic baskets to accompany the spectacle – which promises to be magical.
