Located at the foot of the famous Dents du Midi, Monthey is a town particularly renowned for its rich cultural life and festive atmosphere. Numerous theatres offering a variety of shows include the Théâtre du Crochetan, La Gare, arts et jeunesse and the P'tit Théâtre de la Vièze. There are also some famous concert halls such as the Pont Rouge, La Fabrik and the Kremlin. Sherlock's Art Gallery and the Swiss School of Stained Glass are veritable institutions dedicated to art. Not to mention cultural venues such as the Musée du Vieux Monthey, the Maison du Monde and the Casa Nova, while its more than century-old carnival is one of the major events in French-speaking Switzerland. Monthey also offers great access to numerous hiking, mountain bike and ski trails and has a variety of sports facilities, as well as a wide range of events throughout the year. In September 2025, Monthey will be one of the host cities for the UCI Mountain Bike World Championships, welcoming the Pump Track events on its territory.
