Winter hikes

Zermatt-Sunnegga (via Tiefenmatten) (No. 115)

Von der Sunnegga Ausblick auf die umliegende Bergwelt und das Matterhorn (4'478 m)

Zermatt

From the center of Zermatt village under your own power into the mountain sun – that is the sporty motto of this path. After the romantically snow-covered mountain forest comes the splendid view at Sunnegga.

Difficulty

Intermediate

Length

7.15 km

Duration

2:45 h

Description

The larches are heavily laden with snow. The winter breeze rustles the bare branches of the larches. The snow crunches under the shoes. And so it goes in gentle bends upwards from Zermatt. On the longer flat section, there is a wonderful view through the snowy trees of the Matterhorn and the village. In Findeln, numerous restaurants tempt with their culinary delights. Depending on the time of day, it can still be cold and shady in the Tiefenmatten area, while the sun already shines on Sunnegga.

  • Please observe the notices. Due to different winter hazards, the path may sometimes be closed.

Author's recommendation

Just before you turn onto the path towards Findeln, you pass through a section close to the rock, secured with ropes and a railing. But be brave, the view is worth it.
