Description

The prepared winter hiking trail leads from the terrace of the Felskinn mountain restaurant left over the Chessjen glacier to the Egginerjoch. There, the trail branches off to the right (in the walking direction) in a southerly direction towards the Britannia hut. From the Britannia hut (3,030 m above sea level), you can enjoy an unforgettable view of the Allalin glacier, the Mattmark area, and the namesake natural reservoir lake.

This trail is also very suitable as a snowshoe tour.

Author's recommendation

  • Inform yourself at the tourist office or the mountain railways about the conditions and the opening of the trail and only use the trail if it is groomed and officially open.

Public transport

Take the SBB to Visp and change there to the Postbus towards Saas-Fee (Bus 511).

Approach

The Saas valley is easily and conveniently accessible by car from all directions, whether from Switzerland or abroad. From the north you reach us via Bern through the Lötschberg car shuttle. From the east you come via the Furka Pass or the Furka car shuttle. From the south we are reachable via the Simplon Pass or the Simplon car shuttle and from the west you drive via Lausanne along the Rhône valley to Visp and from there towards Saas-Fee.

From Visp you drive south towards Saas-Fee. At the roundabout "Killerhof" near Stalden, take the second exit to Saas-Fee. In Saas-Grund, turn right after the church towards Saas-Fee.

You will find parking spaces in the parking garage directly at the entrance to Saas-Fee.

  • Inform third parties about your hike and try never to go alone.
  • Do not go onto glaciers without a mountain guide.
