Die verschneiten Wälder und Wiesen am Fuße des Dolent

La Fouly

This route, located in the middle of the Val Ferret, connects the main resort of La Fouly to the small hamlet of Branche d'en Haut.

Difficulty

Intermediate

Length

5.98 km

Duration

1:45 h

Description

From La Fouly, you will cross forests and pastures passing through pretty typical small hamlets of the Val Ferret. The mountain is magnificent with, among others, the famous Amônaz slab, renowned among climbers and, in the backdrop, especially visible on the return heading south, the majestic Mont Dolent, the border point between France, Italy and Switzerland.

Midway, you arrive at the hamlet of Prayon. You can either return the same way before turning off staying on the upstream side of the cantonal road, or take the bus from the Prayon bus stop.

Turn-by-turn directions

From the center of La Fouly, follow the road north to the Grand Hôtel du Val Ferret. Just after the large parking lot, turn left to the west onto the road that descends to the edge of the water intake, then turn right to the north to enter the forest. At the northern edge of the forest, facing a chalet, turn east to climb back up to the cantonal road. Cross it carefully to continue through the meadows and two torrents before passing among the chalets of Seilo.

Join the cantonal road to use the bridge, then immediately take east and north/northeast through the scattered chalets of Prayon, then descend north/northwest to reach the cantonal road, the bus stop, and the café-restaurant of Prayon.

The return is by the same path for the first part. After crossing the bridge and the two torrents again, the path turns south with a slight ascent to cross the forest and lead you to the entrance of La Fouly. You reach the heart of the resort by following the main road.

Author's recommendation

La Fouly and the various hamlets along the path are the origin of the mayens: pastures with small chalets allowing herds of cattle to feed in spring and autumn.
