Set off on a hike that offers a fabulous panorama of the Valais Alps. The villages in the plains stand out on the horizon, Sion and its castles come into view, and the Chamoson vineyard forms a patchwork on the slope. The trail climbs through the forest and white meadows towards the café at Loutze. The ascent takes you to the Loutze mountain pasture in the commune of Chamoson, close to Ovronnaz, a small resort, located on a sunny plateau which faces south and overlooks the Rhone valley. Surrounded by the Grand Chavalard, the summits of Petit and Grand Muveran and Haut de Cry with its limestone cliffs, the resort is also known for its thermal baths. Chamoson extends from the Rhone to Muveran and is particularly renowned for its wines.
Turn-by-turn directions
The route begins in the Tourbillon district, on the border of the two towns. It runs through the forest, and then it is open terrain up to the Croix de Loutze. The Dent de Chamosentse overlooks the surrounding area to the north. The Haut de Cry and the Rhone plain are a delight to see along the whole trail. You then follow the road, and this takes you to the Loutze café. With its panoramic view, the terrace invites you to take a welcome break, and you can enjoy Valais specialities there. The same trail then goes back towards Ovronnaz.
