The high-altitude panorama route on the Lauchernalp is at 3100 meters above sea level the highest winter hiking trail in Europe. The well-groomed route leads you from the mountain station of the glacier railway on the Hockenhorngrat below the Hockenhorn to a unique viewpoint offering views of 40 four-thousanders.
The route is mostly flat and easy to walk.
Turn-by-turn directions
At the mountain station of the gondola, follow the marking westward. After about 900 meters, you will reach the viewpoint with the observation platform. From here, you return on the same path to the mountain station at Hockenhorngrat.

Take the Rhone valley line to Gampel-Steg or the BLS to Goppenstein. From Gampel/Steg or Goppenstein, the PostBus takes you hourly to Wiler. PostBus stop "Wiler, Cable car". Take the aerial cableway up to Lauchernalp, then continue with the 6-seater and afterwards with the 3-seater chairlift to the mountain station Gandegg, and finally with the glacier railway to Hockenhorngrat.
Approach
You can reach the Lötschental via the A9 motorway to Gampel-Steg. Then continue on the A6 to Goppenstein and then to Wiler. You can also reach Goppenstein via the Lötschberg car shuttle from Kandersteg (A6).
From Wiler, take the aerial cableway up to Lauchernalp, then continue with the 6-seater and afterwards with the 3-seater chairlift to the mountain station Gandegg, and lastly with the glacier railway to Hockenhorngrat.
Parking
You can park your car for a fee at the parking lot or in the parking garage at the valley station of the aerial cableway in Wiler.
