Women’s Quotes Trail Unterbäch

Ausblick am Anfang des Frauen-Zitaten-Trails

Unterbäch

In 1957, the women of Unterbäch were the very first women in Switzerland allowed to vote – 14 years before the introduction of women's suffrage. The Women’s Quotes Trail was dedicated to the courage of these women. On the snowshoe trail from Brandalp to the village of Unterbäch, you will encounter various quotes from world-famous women.

Description

From the village of Unterbäch, you can reach Brandalp by chairlift. There you will find the first quote. East of the restaurant, follow the road downhill to the first curve. Follow one of the numerous purple signs marked “Women’s Quotes Trail.” Along a short but idyllic section, follow the Bielsuon river; on the left lies the hamlet of Ta. The second quote is located in a distinctive left curve before the path loses altitude on a short section and eventually crosses a frozen stream. At the third quote, you enter an impressive larch-spruce forest. With a gentle slope, the path slowly winds down to the village. In total, 14 quotes from women around the world are distributed along the path. The trail is equipped with many seating areas. About fifteen minutes above the village, the path emerges from the forest. Before you, the village of Unterbäch appears against an impressive mountain backdrop. Two additional quotes from Federal Councilors Micheline Calmy-Rey and Viola Amherd form the highlight of the hike and stand next to the monument of Elisabeth Kopp.

Turn-by-turn directions

The trail is used in both winter and summer and is therefore very well signposted. The paths are not groomed. With around 400 meters of altitude difference spread over approx. four kilometers, there are a few sections where the use of hiking or ski poles is helpful.
