On the Grimsel and Furka pass roads, closed to traffic between Oberwald and the Hotel Rhonequelle, a trail band over three kilometers long and covering almost 200 meters of elevation runs through the snow-covered mountain forest. An ideal route to get in shape. Skiing on the training trails demands highest concentration. The steep climbs of the black slopes really get your pulse racing, and the descents are not meant for relaxation.
In addition to the Rhonequelle training trail, the Obergoms training trail and the Grafschaft training trail are also part of the over 100 kilometer network of the Loipe Goms. As demanding routes of the Loipe Goms, the training trails can ideally be combined with other trails. Linked together, they form a natural interval training.
Turn-by-turn directions
The Rhonequelle training cross-country ski trail starts at the church in Oberwald and runs in the direction of Gletsch. Since the route is partly also used as a winter hiking trail, you may encounter walkers here. The trail follows the pass road and offers a wonderful atmosphere, surrounded by snow-covered mountains and trees.
After the first hairpin bend, you pass under the steam train bridge, which operates in summer and autumn. Shortly afterward, the last, somewhat steeper climb begins. As soon as you reach the Hotel Rhonequelle, you can fully enjoy the descent back to Oberwald and let your cross-country skis glide relaxedly.
