Description

Order cross-country ski pass

The cross-country ski trail located on the south side of the pass summit offers ideal training conditions due to its altitude at 1850 m above sea level. The loop starts at the Barralhaus and leads in a short ascent up to the Old Spittel. The building was the original hospice built by Kaspar Stockalper. The top three floors served as a summer residence for the Stockalper family. Below, poor travelers were granted free accommodation and meals.

The trail continues across the plain of the hamlet Gampisch, which is agriculturally cultivated in summer. Afterwards, the loop returns to the Barralhaus, which immediately catches the visitors’ eye with its footprint of 7x120 meters. It was built by the clergyman Pierre Barral, who constructed the building as a holiday home for his pupils. However, Barral went bankrupt before the building was completed. Today, the Barralhaus is owned by the army.
