Description

The Gemmi Bahn takes you up to the Gemmi plateau, where an impressive panorama awaits you. From the upper station, take the shuttle down to the Daubensee, from where the cross-country trail starts heading north. You can choose between a 7 and a 5 kilometer trail, both covered in powder snow. The Gemmi is ideal for cross-country skiers who want to pursue their passion in a relaxed, natural setting. Under good weather conditions, the trails are prepared daily for classic cross-country skiing and skating. Surrounded by the snow-covered peaks of the Valais and Bernese Alps, you can enjoy an incomparable winter paradise here. After the sport, the Berghotel Gemmi offers a place to refresh and invites you to linger with regional specialties.

Turn-by-turn directions

From the upper station of the Gemmi Bahn, take the shuttle down to the Daubensee. The trail begins on the southern shore of the lake and initially follows the eastern shoreline northward. After a loop over the frozen lake plateau, you return to the starting station. Alternatively, a shorter round leads back to the Daubensee Bahn.
Length: 7 or 5 kilometers.
Special features: The alpine trail offers an impressive backdrop of snow-covered peaks of the Valais and Bernese Alps. It is prepared for both classic cross-country skiing and skating.

Public transport

Leuk is accessible by train (SBB), then the bus (LLB – Leuk Leukerbad Bus Reisen) runs to the starting point in Leukerbad, followed by the Gemmi Bahn up to the Gemmi Pass and further with the Daubensee Bahn to the trail.

From Basel and Zurich: Autobahn A1 to Bern, A6 to Spiez, towards Kandersteg; car shuttle Kandersteg – Goppenstein, towards Gampel; Leuk – Leukerbad

From Geneva: Autobahn A1 to Lausanne, direction Sion/Sierre; Leuk – Leukerbad

From Milan: Autobahn A8/A26 towards Simplon, car shuttle Iselle-Brig, direction Leuk – Leukerbad

Safety information

Use only marked trails and follow all signs and instructions - for your own safety, to protect and to avoid disturbing wildlife.
Be considerate of other trail users and the environment. Take your waste and the waste of others with you.
Bring additional sun protection. UV rays at high altitudes can be very strong, especially in winter, even on cloudy days.
Weather conditions in the mountains can change quickly and without warning. Appropriate clothing is very important.
Observe warning signals indicating dangers, especially avalanche risks.
