Description
The ascent begins in the village center of Salgesch. The road climbs gently through the vineyard with some hairpin bends up to Varen. Down in Leuk, you join the main road that takes you into the Dala valley. The wide main road, without excessive gradients, crosses the village of Inden and gradually offers a clear view of the Gemmi and the rock faces around Leukerbad. The final part of the ascent is not demanding and leads you to the center of the thermal spa town Leukerbad at over 1,400 meters elevation.
Turn-by-turn directions
From the village center of Salgesch, the road gently ascends through the vineyard up to Varen. After the village, a short descent leads you to Leuk. You bypass the town and reach Rumeling and Inden on the main road. At the entrance to Leukerbad, drive straight through the roundabout to reach the center.

You can reach the starting point in Salgesch from Siders or Visp by funicular railway, post bus, or regular bus.
Approach
Autobahn A9 to the Sierre-Est exit, then continue on the cantonal road to the village center of Salgesch.
Parking
As this route is a partial section of stage 2 of the Wallis Velo Tour and the start location differs from the destination, we recommend travelling to the starting point by public transport. For this purpose, SBB parking lots in Siders (Plaine Bellevue) or Leuk can be used. Parking is also available in Leukerbad or Susten. Please follow the local parking guidance system.
