Les Giettes – Valais Bike Route

Aufstieg Massongex-Les Giettes

Monthey

This little-known but worthwhile ascent leads you to the village of Les Giettes. In places it is very steep uphill, but the panorama and the view of the Dents du Midi will practically make you forget the effort of the climb!

Difficulty

Intermediate

Length

9.76 km

Duration

1:00 h

Description

From the Rhone riverbank at Massongex, the route leads in the direction of Dent de Valerette. Then, on the first flat kilometers, you ride along the forest edge and reach the hamlet of Fontany. From here, the road winds steeply uphill in switchbacks and you quickly gain height. After passing below the village of Daviaz, the route runs more straight along meadows before crossing Vérossaz in two wide curves. You complete the last part of the ascent with an almost constant demanding slope in the shade of the forest. Remember to take a look at the Chablais through the trees from time to time. At a little over 1,100 meters above sea level, you reach the village of Les Giettes and thus the end point of the route. At the junction, you can decide to ride directly down towards Choëx or turn right and climb a few more kilometers.

Turn-by-turn directions

Drive from the Rhone riverbank to the information board located on the Valais side of the Rhone footbridge. Cross the cantonal road and continue through the village center of Massongex to the train station. There, the starting board marks the beginning of the ascent, which takes you towards Daviaz, Vérossaz, and up to the village of Les Giettes, 10.4 kilometers away. The ascent is marked with signs of the Valais bike route markings.
