In Bramois you leave the valley plain. A wide road, gently and evenly rising, leads you through vineyards and meadows. With every kilometer, the panorama widens and gives a view of the nearby Mandelon and the Dent d’Hérens in the background. The route takes you through the sunny characteristic villages of Mase and Saint-Martin before descending again towards Euseigne on partly straight and fast sections. At the entrance to Euseigne you gain elevation again towards Mâche and then continue on the main road to the Grande Dixence dam. The further you advance into the Val des Dix, the wilder and more untouched the nature and surroundings become. To reach the foot of the Grande Dixence dam, you still have to conquer the steepest last kilometers with many bends. Afterwards, you will be rewarded with a spectacular view of the surrounding peaks and fir forests.
Turn-by-turn directions
From the village center of Bramois, follow the winding cantonal road on the right valley side of Val d’Hérens towards Mase/Saint-Martin. After arriving in Saint-Martin, drive down to the intersection towards Evolène and turn right onto a flatter road towards Euseigne. At the entrance to Euseigne, the route turns left and you gain elevation again with the ascent to Mâche. After a few kilometers, the path merges into the main road leading to the Grande Dixence dam. From "Le Pralong" the ascent becomes steeper and ends with a series of hairpin bends. At the end of the tunnel, 500 meters before the dam, turn left and reach the Grande Dixence Dam Museum.
