Description

The Mittaghorn via ferrata is a panoramic route that leads via the northwest ridge to the summit. Once at the top, you are rewarded with a breathtaking panoramic view of the surrounding four-thousanders. Guided routes are offered by local mountain guide offices.

Turn-by-turn directions

Take the Alpin Express to the Morenia mid-station, where the approximately 1.5-hour hike to the start of the via ferrata begins. After a short stretch on the white-red-white hiking trail, the white-blue-white alpine hiking trail branches off to the right. A flagpole marks the start of the northwest ridge to the summit of Mittaghorn. The entrance can be reached along trail traces at 2800 meters. The via ferrata follows the ridge over boulders to the summit cross of Mittaghorn. For the descent, the alpine hiking trail leads right along the ridge for a short distance before the steep descent eastward. Follow the cairns in the terrain for this. After the steepest part, you reach the white-red-white hiking trail towards Plattjen. From here, you can either descend to Saas-Fee by cable car or via the hiking trail to Saas-Fee or Saas-Almagell.
