Wysse Lake
The Wysse Lake offers glorious panoramic views over the majestic 4,000-metre-peaks of the Alps and the Rhône Valley. It marks the starting point of the 40-year long journey of the thermal springs. Here, the rainwater falling on the lake infiltrates the mountains leading down to a depth of around 500 metres below sea level. Around the Triassic gypsum, the water is enriched with calcium and sulphates. As it heats up, it rises to the surface and flows out into one of the many springs in Leukerbad. In summer, you can also hike to the Wysse Lake accompanied by gentle alpacas - which live on Torrent in the summer months. The easy hike begins at the Rinderhütte summit station and leads to Wysse Lake. Including a picnic, the hike takes about 3-4 hours.
