Description
After a delicious breakfast, you gain altitude thanks to the Brandalp chairlift and then reach the Moosalp Pass with leg power. Enjoy the view and take a well-deserved break where you should try the legendary cream slice at the Moosalp restaurant. Now it’s time to get back on the bike and tackle the descent into the Mattertal, passing through the mountain village of Törbel and down to the valley floor at Stalden. Afterwards, continue along the beautiful Matterhorn Valley Trail through the Mattertal up to St. Niklaus. From St. Niklaus, a bus takes you to Grächen, the day’s destination.

Turn-by-turn directions
From Unterbäch, you reach Brandalp by chairlift and begin your ascent to Moosalp. You ride part of the route Moosalp Plateau Bike, mainly on an unpaved road through the forest. From Moosalp, you start the descent into the Mattertal, first to Breitmatte. From there, the trail leads through the forest over the Waldachra to the village of Törbel. The descent to Stalden continues along the main road and then over some fun but quite steep sections. Upon reaching the bottom of the Mattertal, you follow the Matterhorn Valley Trail to St. Niklaus. To reach the village of Grächen, take the bus. Option: You can save yourself the ascent to Moosalp by taking a bus from Bürchen.

You reach Raron by the RegionAlps St-Gingolph-Brig regional train. From there, take the Raron-Unterbäch gondola to Unterbäch. Remember to reserve a spot for your mountain bike via the SBB Mobile app or on sbb.ch.

From Geneva: Motorway A1 to Lausanne; direction Sion/Sierre; Raron.
From Milan: Motorway A8/A26 towards Simplon; car shuttle Iselle-Brig; direction Raron.
Parking
Follow the local parking guidance system in Raron. For this stage of the Valais Alpine Bike Tour, we recommend parking your vehicle in Visp and using public transport (train + gondola) to get to Unterbäch.
