Thanks to the sunny location, this easy route is passable in spring and late into autumn. The route leads through the historic small town of Leuk up into the sunny mountains to the cozy hamlets, clearings, and wells at Guttet. Via the Valais high trail, you reach the rustic mountain village of Albinen. After a long break, you deserve a “roaring dessert.” A descent via fast natural paths and playful trails through forest and vineyards brings you back to Leuk with a big smile
Turn-by-turn directions
Start your route at the train station in Susten and pedal up a paved side road to the historic small town of Leuk. After a short stretch on the main road, the route branches off and climbs over a traffic-free side road and secluded hamlets, clearings, and wells up to the village of Guttet. The view over the wide Rhone valley and the restored river course is indescribably beautiful. From Guttet, the terrain changes from asphalt to gravel. Via the Valais high trail, you reach the exposed mountain village of Albinen and have mastered the ascent. From here, the route leads back downwards. Initially briefly on asphalt, later on a forest road, and finally over a playful trail, you reach St. Barbara. In a zig-zag, you cross the main road and speed once again through the vineyards into the old town of Leuk – a great place for photo shoots and a cool beer. From here, you can comfortably coast back down to the train station in Susten

Author's recommendation
Albinen is one of the most beautiful and original mountain villages in all of Valais. Discover the narrow lanes and brown-tanned houses and storehouses. Visit the Leuk castle restored by Mario Botta and enjoy the breathtaking view from the castle tower over the Rhone valley.
