Description

The Mossmattentrail is part of the Valais Panorama Bike. The route starts on the Grimsel Pass and leads through the whole of Valais. The trail leads from Ulrichen train station along good forest roads to Chäller at 1,879 metres above sea level, where the trail turns into a newly created uphill singletrail. From here, you will have to push your bike to the highest point at 2,068 metres above sea level. The subsequent traverse in front of a breathtaking backdrop makes every biker's heart beat faster and features flow trails, hairpin bends and partly soft forest floor leading to Geschinen station. From Geschinen, the return is to the starting point in Ulrichen via the official cycle path.

Turn-by-turn directions

The tour starts at Ulrichen station. First follow the hiking trail in the direction of the Nufenen Pass. Shortly before the small bridge that crosses the Aegina stream, leave the hiking trail and cross the Nufenen Pass road to reach the forest road (point 1583). Follow the forest road to the end at the Chäller (point 1879). This is where the uphill trail starts, and at times will require pushing the bike. The flowing and varied trail starts on a small peak at 2,050 metres above sea level and then climbs slightly uphill. Follow the trail until you reach a hiking trail junction and turn off in a north-easterly direction. This is the start of a downhill flow trail to Geschinen, where there is a choice of either riding along the Rottenvelo trail directly back to Ulrichen; or following the cycle path first in the direction of Brig to Münster, with a detour through the village, before returning via Geschinen to the tour’s starting point in Ulrichen.
