The ride starts in the thermal spa resort of Leukerbad. The route initially leads through the old village and past the resort’s historical Maison Blanche hotel before following a simple track through the meadows to the “Albinenleitern”. These are vertical wooden ladders that allow hikers to negotiate the cliffs, but mountain bikers have an alternative: a side road that climbs up to the base station of the Flaschen–Torrentalp gondola and the Restaurant Flaschen. From here, delightful singletrack trails with easy obstacles lead to Albinen. This mountain village is a gem full of charm dating back to the 11thCentury, when residents of Leukerbad settled the area and started cultivating the surrounding land. After a short break in Albinen, the route continues through a beautiful forest down to St. Barbara. From here, you ride past sunny vineyards to Leuk and then on to Susten.
Our favorites
Our favorite itineraries are part of a selection of the best routes in the region and are proposed by Valais/Wallis Promotion to best meet the expectations of our guests.
Turn-by-turn directions
After leaving the village of Leukerbad, the route initially leads gently downhill along a simple meadow track on the eastern side of the Dala valley as far as the Albinen ladders. Next comes a short climb of about 280 vertical metres along a minor road up to the base station of the Torrent gondola at Flaschen. Here, you turn off onto a beautiful singletrack trail which leads across the slopes to above Dorbu. To continue to Albinen, you then have to follow the main road below for a short while. After passing through the pretty mountain village of Albinen and crossing the Miligrabu ravine, the route continues along unpaved tracks and a flowing singletrack trail to St. Barbara. Take care: here you have to cross the main road to Leukerbad, with fast traffic. You then ride along the high trail above Leuk enjoying beautiful views of this historical small town. Finally, the route continues down to the river Rhône and Leuk railway station – which is located in Susten.
