Description

The starting point of the route is in the beautiful village center of Leukerbad. Characteristic of the mountain village, it begins right past a thermal bath. The hot springs of Leukerbad have been known since Roman times. Then follows an entertaining ascent on side and alp roads to Torrentalp above Leukerbad and Albinen. The view stretches from the impressive rocky arena in the west over much of the 4000-meter peaks of the southern Alps. The restaurant at the mid-station of the gondola offers an opportunity for a break and refreshments. Further on, you continue on a beautiful high-altitude path to the "Undru Guggerhubel," another viewpoint and the namesake of the route. The singletrail that follows is the highlight of the route. It leads through the forest destroyed by a fire in 2003 and on to Guttet-Feschel. Finally, the route leads through the culturally and historically interesting small town Leuk to Susten and the train station.

Our favorites

Our favorite itineraries are part of a selection of the best routes in the region and are proposed by Valais/Wallis Promotion to best meet the expectations of our guests.

Turn-by-turn directions

The route starts in the village of Leukerbad. First, it goes along a flat field path below the so-called Albinen ladders. Then a paved road with a pleasant incline leads to the valley station of the Flaschen gondola. A steady climb continues on the alp road with a beautiful view up to Torrentalp. Afterwards, the well-deserved downhill fun begins. A surprisingly easy-to-ride singletrail with a perfect gradient leads via Alp Tschärmilonga through the forest burned in 2003 to Guttet. The route then briefly follows the road to Wiler. Right next to the large transmission antenna, you turn onto a historic path towards Oberrotafen. A final short ascent on the road leads via Grächmatten to below Thel. From there, you continue on the Torrent trail and other singletrails to Leuk. Finally, you ride through the historic small town, past the castle and down to the Rhone. The final stop is at Leuk/Susten train station.
