Description

From Visperterminen, the mountain station Giw is easily accessible by chairlift. On the terrace of the mountain restaurant, riders can enjoy a coffee before the start and the view of the Weisshorn, the Mischabel group, and the distinctive Bietschhorn.

Then the trail fun really begins. In the first section from Giw down to Muttji, mountain bikers can expect a clear and wide trail with many descents. Afterwards, a flatter section leads to Hüoterhüsi and through the picturesque hamlet of Ara to Hotee. From there, the singletrail through the 2011 fire area is a real enduro highlight: since the varied trail lies in places on exposed terrain, speed should be adjusted to individual riding skills. The trail was partially rebuilt and is spectacularly embedded in the forest. The tour ends in Visp, where a visit to the old town is definitely worth it: the charming old village section exudes an Italian flair with its numerous restaurants featuring garden terraces.

Our favorites

Our favorite itineraries are part of a selection of the best routes in the region and are proposed by Valais/Wallis Promotion to best meet the expectations of our guests.

Turn-by-turn directions

From Visperterminen, you reach Giw by chairlift and start your descent northwest on a wide, descent-oriented, and clearly laid out trail. After two changes of direction, there is a flat section on a mainly unpaved forest road over Muttji to Alpe Bodma and further to the turning point at Hüoterhüsi. Then the trail leads westward along the ridge and then zigzagging through the idyllic hamlet Ara onto the forest path, which leads towards Hotee. At the turning point in Hotee, the single trail “Phoenix from the Ashes” starts, which leads through exposed terrain in some places and runs first eastward on the south side of the Rhone Valley and after some changes of direction, it flows into Terbinerstrasse southeast of Visp. The return trip to Visp goes down Terbinerstrasse until you reach the valley floor, from there keep left and reach Visp train station via Bahnhofsstrasse.
