Description

This very demanding route, which was marked out for the 1988 Mountain Bike World Championship, allows you to test your fitness while enjoying the extraordinary landscape of Aminona. The first Mountain Bike World Championship took place in Crans-Montana in 1988. Today's 18 km route corresponds almost exactly to the one that Mike Kloser flew to win the first medal in this discipline. You start from Aminona, where you can leave your car in the parking lot. From there, prepare for an intense effort. There are several places for breaks along the way, such as the "Cave du Scex" or the restaurant at Plumachit. Your ride takes you mainly over unpaved paths with some technically interesting sections. The panorama with the most beautiful 4000-metre peaks of the Valais Alps and the nature around will make it easier for you to forget the physical effort of the route.

Our favorites

Our favorite itineraries are part of a selection of the best routes in the region and are proposed by Valais/Wallis Promotion to best meet the expectations of our guests.

Turn-by-turn directions

From the starting point in Aminona, take the hiking trail to the right of the valley station of the cable car (Aminona-Petit Mont Bonvin) until you reach a farm road that takes you to the Alp "Cave du Scex". From the Alp, continue following the course of the irrigation channels eastward and cross them after about 1.5 kilometers. Then follows a tough climb to Les Granzettes, where you cross the cable car and the Grand Bonvin chairlift. The ascent to the mountain station of the Petit Mont-Bonvin 1 ski lift is rewarded with a breathtaking view. The subsequent descent to Les Taules is immediately followed by a small climb before you take on the final descent back to Aminona.

Author's recommendation

A visit to the alpine restaurant at the Cave du Scex offers culinary delights in a scenic location. Taste raclette made from cheese produced directly on the alp or a fine piece of homemade fruitcake.
