Start at the Riederalp Mitte cable car station, from where you ride over the Aletschpromenade to Bettmeralp. The route is relatively flat here but changes quickly. The section from Bettmeralp to Wurzenbord is already sweat-inducing. Alternatively, take the Wurzenbord chairlift up. Relatively flat, continue on the Herrenweg to Fiescheralp, then up to the Tälligrattunnel (Obers Tälli). Be sure to enjoy the view of the Fiesch Glacier here. After passing through the tunnel, you reach Märjela. Tip: Walk down to the glacier edge and admire the Great Aletsch Glacier. You can rest at the Gletscherstube and recharge for the return trip. From Märjela, you can either return the same way to Fiescheralp or choose the challenging trail over Unners Tälli, provided you are experienced bikers. From the Bergfreund restaurant on Fiescheralp, turn right towards Schönbiel. Upon reaching the Bättmerhitta restaurant, follow the Herrenweg for a short section before turning right again onto a trail to the idyllic Bettmersee. The last stage takes you over Gopplerlücke and Golmenegg back to the Riederalp Mitte cable car station.
Our favorites
Our favorite itineraries are part of a selection of the best routes in the region and are proposed by Valais/Wallis Promotion to best meet the expectations of our guests.
Turn-by-turn directions
From Bettmeralp, follow the signs to Bettmersee. Then it goes uphill towards Restaurant Wallisertube and further to Fiescheralp. The path changes from asphalt to natural ground. A climb of 150 meters in altitude leads to Restaurant Bättmerhitta. Afterwards, it is 2 km on the Herrenweg to the Fiescheralp mountain station. From there, a wider path leads to the Gletscherstube. Shortly before, you pass through a 2 km long dark tunnel with occasional dripping water. After the Gletscherstube, a narrow, partly rocky hiking trail returns to Fiescheralp – suitable only for experienced bikers. Less experienced should return through the tunnel. At Fiescheralp, head towards Bettmeralp, right along the mountain to Bettmersee. The route leads over the Schneebodu reservoir and along a narrow hiking path back to Riederalp.
