Description

After your night in Zinal, a steep path from the village will help you wake up. The route follows the famous finish of the Sierre-Zinal mountain run by leading uphill in the opposite direction. Ascend through a larch forest to reach a pleasant, gently descending single trail that takes you to the Tsahélet Farm. The path then becomes steeper to reach the Forcletta Pass, which connects the valleys of Zinal and the Turtmann Valley. From this point, you change language and rhythm. After a long ascent, it is now time to start a long descent that brings you to Lake Turtmann. From the lake, make a final ascent to reach the Turtmann Hut. The stone terrace located at 2523 m overlooks the glaciers, the Bishorn, the Weisshorn, and other impressive 4000-meter peaks in the region.

Turn-by-turn directions

Start your route with a big climb by following the path that begins in the village of Zinal. At the intersections Chiesso, Virons, and Tsahélet, always choose the path that leads up to the Col de la Forcletta. Once on the other side, continue downhill to Chalte Berg before reaching Lake Turtmann. To get to the Turtmann Hut, follow the path running below the hut, before a final particularly steep climb that takes you to the destination.

Safety information

Use of the trail paths and information on this website is at your own risk. Local conditions may cause changes to the route. Valais/Wallis Promotion assumes no responsibility for the accuracy and completeness of the information on this website.

For all trails:

  • Use only marked trail paths and follow all signposts and instructions—for your own safety, for the protection of grazing animals, and out of respect for wildlife.
  • Close gates after passing through.
  • Behave considerately towards other trail users, plants, and animals.

For mountain trails:

  • Carry extra sunscreen. UV rays at high altitudes can be very strong, even on cloudy days.
  • Plan your trail carefully: take into account the required fitness level of all participants, weather forecasts, and seasonal conditions.
  • Weather conditions in the mountains can change very quickly and without warning. Appropriate clothing and provisions (food and drink) are very important. In unstable weather, it is better to turn back early.
  • Inform your family about your trail route. Avoid, if possible, being alone on the trail.
  • Pay attention to warning signs indicating dangers at river banks, along watercourses below dams and reservoirs: water levels can rise quickly and without warning.
