Description

Anyone who enjoys clocking up plenty of vertical metres will find that the many mountain massifs of the Portes du Soleil holiday region promise a thrilling challenge. Trail enthusiasts with a good level of fitness and experience will particularly enjoy the routes straddling the border between Switzerland and France, which offer the chance to scale many cols and summits in a spectacular setting. The Pointe de Bellevue, which rises to an altitude of 2,041 metres, reveals a magnificent view of the surrounding mountains and of Lake Geneva. A panoramic display identifies some of the most beautiful summits in the Alps, including the Chablais massif, the Dents du Midi, Mont Blanc and many others.

Turn-by-turn directions

Starting from the centre of the village of Morgins, climb the steep road up to the district of Sépaz. Continue across the south-facing slopes of the Val de Morgins, scattered with forest and pasture, eventually climbing the Pointe de Bellevue. The views from the summit of the Chablais plain and to Lake Geneva are breathtaking. All along the return leg, you will enjoy glorious views of the Dents du Midi, your constant companion. When you reach the border between Switzerland and France, take time to enjoy the nature reserve of the Lac de Morgins before returning to your starting point.

Safety information

Use of the trails and the information on this website is at your own risk. Local conditions may entail changes to routes. Valais/Wallis Promotion accepts no liability for the accuracy and completeness of information on this website.

 For all trails:

  • Use marked trails only, and take note of all signposting – for both your own safety as well as that of grazing animals and to avoid disturbing wildlife.
  • Close gates after passing through.
  • Please treat other trail users, as well as the plants and animals, with respect.

For mountain trails:

  • Take extra care protecting yourself from the sun at high altitudes. UV radiation can be exceptionally strong, even in cloudy weather.
  • Plan your trail carefully: take the fitness level of each participant, weather forecast and season into consideration.
  • Weather conditions can change quickly in the mountains, without warning. Appropriate clothing is therefore essential, along with adequate supplies of food and water. In case of uncertain weather conditions, turn back in good time.
  • Inform others of the route you plan to take. Whenever possible, avoid going alone.
  • Take note of warning signs indicating the constant danger in river beds and along watercourses below dams and reservoirs: water levels may rise rapidly without warning.
