Description

The path starts with a short ascent at Fionnay and leads you to the Dranse river to reach the Val de Bagnes valley. At the height of the small village Bonatchiesse, the climb to Col des Otanes becomes steeper. The path first winds through forests and green meadows and continues through an alpine and rocky landscape up to the pass. At Col des Otanes, the landscape mainly consists of rocks and ice. Above you is the Grand Combin and at your feet the Corbassière glacier. Begin the descent down to the FXB Panossière mountain hut. Then continue along the moraine and down to the Corbassière suone, which you follow before descending through the forest to Fionnay. Cross the bridge to return to your starting point.

Turn-by-turn directions

From the village of Fionnay, take the path that runs along the Dranse de Bagnes river towards Bonatchiesse. Then the path branches off and begins a steady ascent of 1400 meters in elevation. You cross La Tseumette, where you intersect with another alpine path coming from Mauvoisin, which joins yours during the climb to Col des Otanes. After crossing this rocky pass, it is all downhill. First, you go to the FXB Panossière mountain hut, then to the Corbassière suone, and finally descend through the forest back to Fionnay.

Safety information

The use of the trail paths and information on this website is at your own risk. Local conditions may cause changes to the route. Valais/Wallis Promotion accepts no responsibility for the accuracy and completeness of the information on this website.

For all trails:

  • Use only marked trail paths and observe all signposts and instructions - for your own safety, to protect grazing animals, and out of respect for wildlife.
  • Close gates after passing through.
  • Behave considerately towards other trail users, plants, and animals.

For mountain trails:

  • Bring additional sunscreen. UV rays at high altitude can be very strong, even in cloudy weather.
  • Plan your trail carefully: consider the required fitness level of all participants, weather forecasts, and seasonal factors.
  • Weather conditions can change very quickly and without warning in the mountains. Appropriate clothing and provisions (food and drink) are very important. In unstable weather, better turn back early.
  • Inform your family about your trail route. Avoid being alone if possible.
  • Observe warning signs that indicate dangers at riverbanks, along waterways below dams and reservoirs: water levels can rise quickly and without warning.
