Description

The picturesque village of Binn, with its arch bridge dating back to Roman times, is part of the Binn Valley Nature Park. Besides its untouched nature, the valley is also known for its mineral resources, making it a popular destination for mineral collectors. It is worth admiring the idyllic Lake Schapler, located below the Binner Stockhorn at an altitude of 2237 meters. In July, the lake basin can sometimes be covered with snow. From this spot, there is a panoramic view of the Saflisch Pass, the Breithorn, the Eggerhorn, the Schweifegrat with the Fülhorn, the Rappehorn, the Turbehorn, and the Hohsandhorn. This beautiful lake of Schapler lies in the middle of alpine pastures, surrounded by the Stockhorn to the east and Hirli to the west.

Turn-by-turn directions

From Binn (departure is also possible from Fäld or Heiligkreuz), walk towards Wilere, where you reach the parish church of St. Michael, a building visible from afar. Continue along the stone houses and follow the Reckibach to reach the edge of the forest. This is where the trail to Schaplerstafel begins, a path that can sometimes be very steep. From there, turn left into the forest towards Salzgeb, a fir forest that then gives way to a larch forest. The path continues to "Kaffeestafel" at 2039 m altitude. Upon reaching the Hockbode plateau at 2100 meters high, the view opens onto a magnificent setting. Only one last ascent remains before arriving at Lake Schapler at 2237 m altitude. The return path passes through Hockbode, Dri Stafle, Mässerchäller, then ends in Imfeld or Binn.
