Gornergrat Zermatt Marathon

The Gornergrat Zermatt Marathon is one of the most beautiful in the Alps. Start in St. Niklaus (1,116 m), finish in Zermatt on the Riffelberg (2,582 m). If you wish, you can also extend the route to the Gornergrat (3,089 m). This involves covering a distance of 42.195 km and over 1,469 metres in altitude. You will be rewarded with a breathtaking panoramic view. In addition to the main race on Saturday, 5 July 2025, a children's race will take place for the first time on Friday afternoon. But not only runners are welcome: No, the marathon is also a very special event for spectators. A special attraction of the Gornergrat Zermatt Marathon is the travelling grandstand: a special Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn train that runs parallel to the marathon from St. Niklaus to Zermatt.
