Grands Barrages Tour

Between the Grand Combin and Dent d’Hérens, both culminating at over 4,000 metres, enormous dams were erected by man to make use of the melt waters of the big alpine glaciers, including the Grande Dixence dam. Astride the Swiss Valais and the Italian Valpelline, in a region where superb lakes abound, the Grands Barrages Tour is a mountain walk culminating at 3,087 metres, which is not very difficult physically and only has one or two steep sections and one walk across a glacier, at the Collon pass. This route links four big dams: Mauvoisin, the Place Moulin, Grande Dixence and Cleuson.
