Far from the major resorts lies the wildly romantic Turtmann Valley. Turtmann-Unterems is located at its lower end at 1003 metres. The oldest, poplar-lined section of Napoleon’s “Route du Simplon” takes you to Turtmann-Unterems. Part of the Pfyn-Finges Nature Park and close to Turtmann Valley, this town in the Rhone Valley is a great starting point for short or long hiking tours. The old patrician houses dominate the centre of this village of 1125 souls. The many different trails, the 42-metre waterfall, the water-powered sawmill but also the big autumn market and the Carnival season are worth exploring.
