In the old town of Sion, perched between the hills of Valeria and Tourbillon, the cantonal museums are home to collections of inestimable value. The locations themselves are delightful and full of charm: a former prison here, a mediaeval building there. The careful use of scenography in their permanent and temporary exhibitions means the art museum, the history museum and the nature museum are able to put their treasures in the best possible light. It is a winning formula: in 2018 the art museum was nominated for the European Museum of the Year Award.

On the first Sunday of every month, the cantonal museums (of art, history and natural history) in Sion offer free admission and organise special activities. Guided visits, admission to sites normally closed to the public, themed events and workshops welcome visitors of all ages.
