Niederwald

Niederwald
The picturesque village of Niederwald lies at 1251 meters and has retained its original charm. It is an ideal starting point for hiking, biking and cross-country skiing tours. Niederwald is also known as the birthplace of Caesar Ritz, the founder of the world-famous Ritz-Carlton hotels. His birthplace and his monument at the Caesar Ritz Fountain are central attractions, as is the parish church of St. Theodul from 1666. The village impresses with its historic architecture, with narrow "Obergommer" wooden houses, and is one of the most beautiful villages in Switzerland. The Ritz station, which is located in the station building, houses a bistro, a shop and exhibitions about Caesar Ritz and local art.
