Rhone Glacier
Gletsch is located immediately next to the Rhone Glacier. In those days, the guests of the Hotels Glacier du Rhone were able to dine with a view onto the nearby ice flow. These days one has to hike several kilometres before encountering the glacier. Nonetheless, this hike is very interesting because it is interspersed with many informational signs (in six languages) showing the apron of the glacier in all its splendour. There are moraines from different ages, plants that have found a home in the apron, the dynamics of the ice flow, animals that live here, wet zones and the various types of moors that the glacier has left behind. There is also some information on glaciologists and the science of glaciology.
