The Furka Pass connects Gletsch in the Upper Goms and the Urner Useren Valley, which lies along the Gotthard route. Rebuilt in 1866, the road historically drew thousands of tourists drawn to the mountain panoramas with the Rhone Glacier. Postal carriages and, after 1921, postal buses were the only transportation options. The Furka-Oberalp Train was completed in 1926. In operation until the Furka base tunnel was opened, the old narrow-gauge mountain line is once again a tourist attraction: nostalgic steam engine rides over the Furka Pass guarantees an experience of historic proportions. During the winter months, the road to access the Furka Pass is closed. However, you have still the possibility to reach the Useren Valley taking the Furka car train.
