Hiking holidays Aletsch Panorama Trail Wallis
The Aletsch Glacier has been a UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site since 2001. Twenty kilometres of ice descend here from the Jungfrau into the Valais, making the glacier one of the most spectacular natural wonders in the Alpine region. But this hiking tour is not only about the eternal ice. You’ll hike over suspension bridges, visit the Aletsch Forest, which is protected, and spend the night in mountain inns in the middle of the mountains of Valais.
Day 1: Individual arrival in Brig | Brig - Belalp
Luggage drop-off in Brig, followed by a visit to the World Nature Forum, the visitor centre for the UNESCO World Heritage Site in Naters. Afterwards hike to Blatten and by cable car up to the Belalp.
Details: approx. 2.5 h / approx. 7 km / 675 m ascent / 20 m descent
Day 2: Belalp – Riederalp
Best view to the glacier gate and the lower part of the Aletsch Glacier from the Aletschbord. Over a suspension bridge to the Aletsch forest with 100-year-old Swiss stone pines. The Riederfurka with Villa Cassel is enthroned like an eagle's nest on a ridge of this magnificent Valais mountain world.
Details: approx. 4 h / approx. 10 km / 695 m ascent / 850 m descent
Day 3: Riederalp – Fiescheralp
Unique viewpoints follow each other like fireworks: in the north, a magnificent view of the Aletsch Glacier, the heart of the UNESCO World Heritage Site, and in the south, the 4,000-metre peaks of Valais. A gentle descent to Märjelensee. Woolly grasses and small lakes form stark contrast to rocks and ice. At the end of the tour, head through the Tälligrat Tunnel to Fiescheralp.
Details: approx. 4 h / approx. 12 km / 775 m ascent / 355 m descent
Day 4: Fiescheralp – Bellwald | Departure
Back to Märjelensee and using mountain paths, we descend to the castle, a glacier-cut gneiss rock massif with the mountains of Goms in the background. The Fiescher Glacier becomes visible. The 160-metre-long suspension bridge Aspi-Titter indicates the way to the idyllic Goms mountain village of Bellwald. Luggage claim in Brig and individual departure.
Details: approx. 4 h / approx. 10 km / 435 m ascent / 1,150 m descent
A hike in the alpine region for which you should be sure-footed and in good physical condition. You must be immune to vertigo to cross the suspension bridge over the Massa Gorge.
