Fiesch

The village of Vios (later named Viesch) was first mentioned in 1203. The steady growth of the glacier was the greatest threat to the village in previous centuries, with locals frequently praying that the glacier would melt. Since 2010, however, Fiesch citizens have had Papal blessing to pray for the glacier (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) to be saved. Take the cable car from Fiesch to the Eggishorn: at 2,927 m, the peak offers spectacular views of the entire length of the Aletsch Glacier and its smaller sibling, the Fiescher Glacier.
