The Valais is a hiker’s paradise in winter. Its 1000 kilometres of immaculately prepared winter trails invite hikers to leisurely strolls or athletic climbs in an unparalleled setting. With the winter sun as your companion, you can wander through silent snow-covered forests and over magnificent sunny terraces featuring fantastic views. This is as close as you can get to the high peaks and majestic glaciers of the Valais Alps. A steaming cup of schnapps and coffee or hot chocolate welcomes contented hikers in a snug mountain hut at the end of the day.
The Aletsch Glacier within your reach
The panoramic mountain world of the Belalp offers spectacular views to 4000-metre-peaks. The mountain giants of rock and ice extend from the Matterhorn to the Mischabel Group, practically shaking hands. The unobstructed views of the Aletsch Glacier are no less impressive. In the distance below the spectacular suspension bridge of the Massa Gorge are visible. The Glishorn casts its shadow over the Valais valley basin to the south. The winter walking tour begins at the summit station of the Belalp cable car, following nearly level ground to Hotel Belalp, where a sunny terrace welcomes the hiker with refreshing drinks and local specialities. Return to the Belalp cable car via the same path.
