The Valais is a hiker’s paradise in winter. Its 1000 kilometres of immaculately prepared winter trails invite hikers to leisurely strolls or athletic climbs in an unparalleled setting. With the winter sun as your companion, you can wander through silent snow-covered forests and over magnificent sunny terraces featuring fantastic views. This is as close as you can get to the high peaks and majestic glaciers of the Valais Alps. A steaming cup of schnapps and coffee or hot chocolate welcomes contented hikers in a snug mountain hut at the end of the day.
Saas-Fee and its crown of snow-capped peaks
The famous village of Saas-Fee is tucked away in the very steep and narrow Saas valley. Towering high above it are some of Switzerland’s mightiest peaks – an unparalleled natural beauty of glaciers and eternal snow. While skiers and snowboarders enjoy the Fee glacier itself, non-skiers in Saas-Fee have a whole mountain to themselves. The Hannig not only boasts an extensive network of winter hiking trails, but an exciting toboggan run as well. The ascent from Saas-Fee to the summit station is very steep in places, but the superb panoramic views to be had from the top make it well worth the effort.
